Java is along and narrow islands, with an area of 132,000 sq km, have a population of 128 million, conveniently divided into three provinces: West, Central and East Java. It also includes special territories of Jakarta , the capital city, which is rapidly becoming megalopolis and Yogyakarta (special district) a centre of Indonesia 's premier tourist destinations.

Climate:

Across the island the temperature through out the year averages 22 to 29 C (78 TO 85 F) and humidity averages a high 75% but the northern costal plains are usually hotter – up to 34 C (94 F) during the day in dry season. Generally the south coast is cooler than the north coast, especially in the dry season when it receives the south-east breezes. The mountainous regions inland are much cooler, with temperature dropping to freezing at night on the mountain peaks. The wet season is from October to the end of April and the dry season is from May to September.

People:

Indonesia has over 300 ethnic groups, while Java, with three main groups, which share many common cultural attributes, Java has various ethnic sub regions with distinct variations in language and culture. The three main groups their speaking in their own language, are: the Javanese of Central and East Java, the Sundanese of West Java and the Madurese from Madura Island off the north-east coast.

Geography:

With an area of 132,000 sq km, Java is just a speck on the map of Asia , but with its huge population and economic importance it is a continent in it self. Java is tropical paradise, dominated by a string of volcanoes running the length of the island and over than 30 volcanoes it in Java, interspersed with brilliant green rice paddies, coconut palms and plantation of sugar cane, rubber and cassava. The fertile valleys between the volcanoes and along the north coast are the main agricultural regions of Java, and the main population centers.

Java's three main languages are Javanese, which is spoken by nearly 60% of the people in central and eastern Java. Sundanese, which is spoken in Western Java and Madurese, which is spoken on the Madura Island

Indonesian, or Bahasa Indonesia, is the official national language of Indonesia ; it has long been the common language of the Indonesian archipelago and become the language of government commerce and education.

Population:

Java, with population of 128 million people, is one of the populous island on the earth, the total area of Java and the island of Madura off Java's north coast is 132,000 sq km, yet Java's population density of nearly 1000 people per sq km, Java with only 6.9% of Indonesia's land mass has 60% of the population. Over population in Java remains Indonesia greatest problem, three million people are added each year to the Indonesian population and most of them are in Java, Government efforts to control Java's over population consist of a birth control program, the campaign to reduce the birth rate has been most successful in Java, where many families are now firm believers in the slogan two children is enough.

Java has an immensely rich artistic tradition that varies from region to region, reflecting the island's social and cultural diversity, the musical styles and instrument of the gamelan music vary throughout the island, and each region has its own dances and style of batik.
Prambanan Temple (The Legend of Roro Jonggrang)

Prambanan is the largest Hindu temple compound in Indonesia, located approximately 18 km east of Yogyakarta.


The temple is one of the largest Hindu temples in south-east Asia. It is characterised by its tall and pointed architecture, typical of Hindu temple architecture, and by the 47m high central building inside a large complex of individual temples.
